WinXastir Netinstall 1.4.1.16
The Cygwin Xastir network install document web page has been tweaked. The latest STABLE Xastir CVS source has been fetched, compiled and uploaded. It's time to give the WinXastir network install a workout...
WinXastir
News and announcements for the WinXastir project will be posted here.
Mixing the information in with the Lintronix site was confusing.

WinXastir CD has FCC callbook data
In response to a question on the SEATCP discussion list.
The callsign data at the FCC site is only a .zip. I've modified the fcc-get script from Xastir to pull out the listing, sort it, and then compress it (bzip2) on my own for my archives that I use to build the Xastir/Cygwin CD-Rom... ( http://www.lintronix.com/winxastir )
It was when I was experimenting with the file processing script that I noticed I was using gzip in one place and bzip2 in another so the size difference kind of popped out at me.
I include the compressed files of FCC and RAC databases on the CD and supply a small script that unpacks them in the location where Xastir expects to find them.
The callbook lookup is a neat feature of Xastir that folks should check out if they're not already using it.

VE4TRT Cygwin Xastir Install CD
For anyone interested, I also made up a Cygwin/Xastir CD. Not as flexible as Bill's but it's a one-double click process. Double-click and don't touch the computer for 5 minutes, since it uses Autoit and moving the mouse can cause it to miss a step. Total install takes about half an hour, more if the Canadian Toporama maps are included (add 400 MB). It has Imagemagick and Shapefile support. $10 would cover shipping to the US, the CD and mailer....I found it works on Win98 and XP but not on Win95 or WinME

Preliminary WinXastir Net Install Instructions
Update 12/18/2004 - New install documentation with pictures is on the web!
---
1. Download the Cygwin setup.exe tool from http://www.cygwin.com/ - http://www.cygwin.com/setup.exe
2. Run setup.exe
a. Select Install From Internet
b. Root Directory c:\cygwin (or whatever).
All users
. Unix
c. Local directory:
d. Direct connection (unless you know you have a proxy)
Now it downloads mirrors.txt
e1. Enter a User URL: http://www.lintronix.com/winxastir
e2. Select the new http://www.lintronix.com/ entry.
e3. Also select one of the standard Cygwin mirror in addition to Lintronix. I've had good luck testing with ftp://planetmirror.com. Ctrl-click on planetmirror.com to select it in addition to Lintronix.
Cygwin Setup will now download setup.bz2 or setup.ini from both sites. When complete, it will present the "Select Packages" screen.
f. Click the [VIEW] button on the Select Packages page once to get the FULL view. Scroll way way down the page to "xastir". Click on the "Skip" to change the xastir status to a version number signifying an instal".
Many other packages should change from Skip to a version number as they are Xastir dependencies.
Note - if this is an update, click the view button a second time to get the "partial" display. That will show the new packages to be installed.
g. Click Next and the install begins.
Notes:
If cygwin creates an Icon on the desktop, check it to make sure it's not set to MS-DOS only mode.
This is a basic Xastir. Compiling with additional libraries creates additional dependencies that can not currently be resolved with a Cygwin install.
