| To Start, run the Cygwin Setup program... (If you don't already have setup.exe, download it from here - at the http://www.cygwin.com home page.) | ![]() |
| You will first see the Cygwin Splash Screen:
Clicking Next leads to the "Choose Installation Type" window. |
![]() |
| Select "Install from Internet" and click Next. | ![]() |
| The next step is to choose a base, or root directory, for the Cygwin install. Either c:/cygwin, d:/cygwin or similar work well, depending own your system drives and free space. | ![]() |
| Select Local Package Directory - where you want Setup to store the installation files it downloads. C:/temp, D:/temp or similar depending on your systems disk drives and free space. | ![]() |
| Now choose the Connection type. For most this will be a direct
connection.
Setup will download a list of Cygwin Mirrors when you click Next. |
![]() |
| Now it starts to get interesting. We have to choose the download
sites. For normal Cygwin, a single site is used. For WinXastir,
it's necessary to choose both the WinXastir site and a download site for
all the standard Cygwin packages.
Since the WinXastir site is not one of the Cygwin mirrors, we have to add it manually to the list. Enter http://www.lintronix.com/winxastir in the User URL box and click Add. I've had good luck using ftp://planetmirror.com as the source of Cygwin and it is the only site I've tested with. Please let me know if you have success with others and I will add them to a list. Here it's being shown selected. |

| Ctrl-Click on Lintronix to select it in addition to ftp://planetmirror.com.
Hold the Control key down as you click on the second system to select both.
Click Next with both Planetmirror and Lintronix selected. |

| The setup program will download lists of packages from both sites. Setup.bz2, a compressed list, comes from PlanetMirror. Since it's so small with just one package, a non-compressed setup.ini is presented by Lintronix. | ![]() |
| Once the package lists are installed, the Select Packages window will
be displayed.
Clicking once on the View button cycles from View Categoy to View Full. Here you can scroll down the page and find Xastir in the list of packages. NOTE: If Xastir is not present in this display, you probably don't have Lintronix selected in addition to the source of Cygwin packages such as PlanetMirror. If that happens, you may have to Cancel and start over from the beginning. |

| Click on the "Skip" which is present for a new Xastir install and a checked box will be displayed signifying that Xastir has been added to the install list. On the very first run, selecting Xastir will bring in all the X-11 dependencies and many packages will be automatically added to the install. | ![]() |
| One more click on the View button brings us to the Partial display. Here we see all the packages that are being installed. This shows Xastir and two X11 packages which are being updated. A new install will have a much longer list of packages to install. | ![]() |
| Click Next and the install is performed. | ![]() |
| When the download is complete, you will see: | ![]() |
