WinXastir - No More CD-ROM

It took far too many hours to build, test and package the WinXastir CD-Rom for the few copies that were shipped. I'll keep the technology alive but can't afford to spin any more ATU's on this project for the few folks that were interested. On to bigger and better things. Bill

Ok.. It was a whole list of "somethings." Cygwin is busted (a little) on Win98. My local mirror had some corrupt files. Etc. A new script to verify the local mirror and running on the XYL's XP box made a big difference. It should all be better now. The plain "xastir" package has been replaced with "xastir-stable". The "xastir-devel" package adds one script to make setting up CVS easy and

Compiling a full featured Cygwin Xastir executable is a challenge. Here's a precompiled Xastir ready to go. WinXastir CD has FCC callbook data

In response to a question on the SEATCP discussion list. The callsign data at the FCC site is only a .zip. I've modified the fcc-get script from Xastir to pull out the listing, sort it, and then compress it (bzip2) on my own for my archives that I use to build the Xastir/Cygwin CD-Rom... For anyone interested, I also made up a Cygwin/Xastir CD. Not as flexible as Bill's but it's a one-double click process. Double-click and don't touch the computer for 5 minutes, since it uses Autoit and moving the mouse can cause it to miss a step. Total install takes about half an hour, more if the Canadian Toporama maps are included (add 400 MB). It has Imagemagick and Shapefile support. $10
